Privacy Policy for the Organization of Day of Reading

These are the data protection provisions for individuals participating in Reading Day and using the website www.readingfoundation.bg.

II. Overview of the Data We Collect

When you visit our website, we process various personal data—when you contact us, register for Day of Reading, or through the use of cookies.

We may also need to process your personal data based on legal obligations, in accordance with Article 6(1)(c) GDPR.

We share your personal data with third parties only if:

  • You have given explicit consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR),

  • There is a legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c) GDPR),

  • It is necessary for contractual relations with you (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR), or

  • The transfer is necessary to protect our legitimate interests or those of a third party (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Recipients of your data may include:

  • Delivery service providers

  • Newsletter providers

III. Registration for Day of Reading

You can register yourself or your organization on our website to participate in Day of Reading. Required registration information includes:

  • Name

  • Valid email address

  • Organization (optional)

  • Position in the organization (optional)

Mandatory information (name and email) is necessary to register your event. Other data is optional.

Your data will be used to register your reading activity for Day of Reading and to inform you of important updates. Processing is based on your registration request and, where applicable, our legitimate interest (Articles 6(1)(b) and 6(1)(e) GDPR).

Participants may be mentioned in press releases, publications, or social media posts by Day of Reading organizers (Reading Foundation Bulgaria and the Children’s Books Foundation) with name, surname, organization, and event location.

Data will be stored for the duration of the event year plus six months. Contact information may be retained to inform you about future events, unless you request otherwise.

If you give explicit consent, your data (name and email) may also be used to send information about projects and media initiatives. Consent can be withdrawn at any time via info@readingfoundation.bg.

IV. Contacting Us

When contacting us regarding campaigns or Day of Reading, you voluntarily provide personal data such as name, phone number, and/or email.

Data is processed to respond to your inquiry, based on our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(e) GDPR) or, if contractual, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. Data is stored for the response period plus six months.

V. Newsletter

To receive newsletters about campaigns and projects, we require your email address and verification of consent (double opt-in). Data is used only to send the requested information.

You may withdraw consent at any time, e.g., via the “Unsubscribe” link. Data is deleted after unsubscribing.

VI. Searching and Viewing Public Initiatives

Our service allows you to view registered public Day of Readingevents.

Submitting a public initiative requires your name, email, postal code, event address, and institution name. Processing is based on Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. Data is retained until six months after the event.

VII. Automatically Collected Data

1. Cookies
The website uses cookies, including necessary cookies for functionality and optional cookies for analytics and marketing, based on your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR) or legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(e) GDPR).

2. Server Log Files
Your browser automatically sends information to our server. This data is used for administrative and security purposes, justified under legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(e) GDPR).

3. Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics (open-source) for statistical analysis of website usage. IP addresses are anonymized. Processing is based on your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).

4. YouTube
